The SBA SOP 50 10 5(f) requires business valuations or business appraisals for companies being sold with goodwill over $250,000.00. The business valuations need to be prepared by a certified or qualified business appraiser. The bank seeking a SBA loan guarantee must order the appraisal although it is not completely clear if the valuation is solely for the banks benefit or for the bank and the borrower’s benefit.
